Clematis ‘Golden Dream’ PBR
A Polish clematis variety from the Atragene Group with semi-full, yellow flowers, selected by Szczepan Marczyński at a nursery in Pruszków near Warsaw. The climber grows up to 2-3 m in height, climbs with prehensile petioles. Dark green, trifoliate leaves. The flowers are semi-full or full, initially lime-yellow, 7-9 cm in diameter, one of the largest in this group of clematis, bell-shaped, set on purple stalks, with a pleasant grapefruit scent. A single flower consists of four lanceolate, slightly wavy and pointed sepals and 10-25 staminodes. The staminodes are narrowed, elongated, may be longer than the outer sepals, and their tops are raised. During flowering, the flowers become more yellow, and a maroon discoloration appears at the base of the staminode and along the main vein. The climber blooms most profusely in May and, again, but less abundantly, in the summer. Frost-resistant variety (zone 4), undemanding, grows well in average garden soils. Likes well-lit places, but not hot. It tolerates partial shade. Does not require cutting. The variety is useful for planting next to fences, garden supports, stones, old trunks, deciduous or coniferous shrubs. Can be used as a ground cover.
