Berberis thunbergii ‘Lime Star’ PBR
This Polish dwarf barberry variety bred by Janusz Szewczyk at the nursery in Krzywaczka near Krakow, is characterized by a very dense, flat-spherical habit resembling the 'Kobold' variety, but with yellow leaves. Slow growth rate. After six years of cultivation, the shrub reaches 50-60 cm in width and about 30 cm in height. Numerous, raised stems, densely arranged next to each other. The lemon yellow, spatulate leaves are oval with smooth edges. The youngest shoots are gently orange, the older leaves are lime green inside the bush. Tiny yellow flowers appear in spring along with the developing leaves. The fruit, in the form of small oval berries, turns red when it ripens. Tolerant to the soil type, grows well in average, well-drained, moderately moist garden soils, in sunny or slightly shaded positions. Frost resistant variety (zone 5b), recommended for small gardens, for creating low borders, cultivation in rock gardens and in containers placed on balconies and terraces. A great plant for creating colorful compositions with other low shrubs and perennials with dark foliage.
