Miscanthus sinensis PICCOLO RUBINO

A Polish, compact cultivar distinguished by its unique and striking inflorescences. Flowering begins in the second half of August. Initially, the ruby-red panicles are tightly clustered and held upright like candles. The thick, rigid stems are additionally colored a cool blue-grey, creating an exceptionally attractive and unusual color combination. As the inflorescences develop, they retain their ruby coloration, which gradually fades to lighter shades over time. The leaves are green, broad, and borne relatively low on the plant. In autumn, after flowering, the panicles turn brown while the foliage develops attractive orange-yellow autumn color. The clump is compact and dense, reaching approximately 1.2–1.3 m in height when in bloom. Miscanthus sinensis 'Piccolo Rubino' maintains its upright habit throughout the growing season and shows no tendency to flop. It prefers sunny locations and moderately moist, well-drained soils. Owing to its exceptionally compact size, it is particularly well suited for container plantings and smaller gardens. Hardiness zone: 5a (–29 to –27°C).
