XIX International Exhibition "Green is Life"

You found yourselves among 300 exhibitors exclusively from the sector coming from 11 countries – Poland, Austria, Belgium, France, Spain, the Netherlands, Lithuania, Germany, Czech Republic, Hungary and Italy. This year’s fairs have again confirmed their leading position among horticultural events in Poland. The rich and diverse offer, high quality of displays, multitude of interesting novelties and professionalism of the exhibitors – these are the opinions voiced by visitors representing the sector.

We would like to thank you for your activity, creativity and hard work, which has brought about such good effects! You are the co-authors of the success of the Exhibition and its prestigious image.

Exhibition in numbers
Exhibition stands occupied the area of 13,000 m2 foot print in three EXPO pavilions, as well as outdoors. Foreign exhibitors represented 28% of the total number of participants and their displays occupied 25% of the area of the Exhibition. Plants were presented by 146 companies on 50% of the exhibition area. They included 83 Polish nursery companies and horticultural companies – including 57 belonging to the members of the Polish Nurserymen Association.

Offer of the Exhibition
Plant producers grasped the opportunity to present plants to the clients in the best phase of their development and attractiveness. The attention of the visitors was grabbed by the high quality of the displays, their pageantry and interesting ideas. The rich assortment of plants, the diversity of their forms and numerous novelties meant that this largest presentation of decorative plants in Poland and this part of Europe, yet again made a huge impression not only upon the new, but also upon the regular visitors to the Exhibition. An opportunity to build the demand among the end users and to shape the gardening culture has been used to good effect.

On the stands of nearly 130 Polish and foreign exhibitors one could see an extensive offer for plant producers, including equipment and means of production, as well as supplies for garden centres. Apart from regular exhibitors, including sector leaders, there were also new firms with an interesting offer of products and services. Apart from Polish exhibitors and representatives of international concerns, there were firms from Germany, Holland, Belgium, Lithuania and Austria.

All sector publishers with their periodicals and a diverse offer of books, guides and albums were also present at the fairs.

Visitors
The Exhibition was visited by 16,500 persons, including over 5,000 with professional interest in the fair’s offer. The main groups of professionals visiting the Exhibition were: wholesale buyers, representatives of garden centres and stores – 25%, garden and public greenery designers and creators – 23%, plant producers – nurseryman and gardeners – 23%, representatives of the State and local administration (pubic greenery) – 8%, representatives of higher schools, academic institutions, students –  7%.

We also noted a varied group of foreign guests, larger than the group visiting the Exhibition last year. They represented as many as 27 countries, including Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Czech Republic, Romania, Bulgaria, Germany, the Netherlands, France, Italy, Belgium, Denmark, the USA and Great Britain.

The Exhibition was opened by Mr Marek Sawicki, Minister of Agriculture. The opening ceremony was also attended by representatives of State and municipal authorities, parliamentarians, representatives of embassies and numerous representatives of the media.

Representatives of foreign sector media from 11 press titles in 8 countries (Germany, Sweden, Norway, Romania, the Netherlands, Czech Republic, Great Britain and Hungary) were special guests of the fairs. Apart from Exhibition announcements, extensive despatches from the fairs will appear in their periodicals.

Extensive programme
The star-studded line-up of the conferences resulted in large numbers of participants. Public greenery specialists from all over Poland met on Thursday at a conference entitled “Green City – Metamorphoses.” This two-day meeting was attended by 120 persons from towns and communes. A conference entitled “Garden Centre of the Future” conducted by John Stanley, the Australian horticultural management and marketing guru, enjoyed considerable interest of gardening centre owners and traders. It attracted 250 persons from Poland and ten other countries (including Russia, Ukraine and Czech Republic).

The Landscape Architect’s Day (Saturday 27 August) was attended by over 200 designers. The programme of this event included presentations by Polish landscape architects and workshops in computer design techniques. The star of the meeting was Diarmuid Gavin – the Irish designer and author of several books, creator of a number of gardening shows for the BBC and this year’s winner of two gold medals at the Chelsea Flower Show.

For a second time, the exhibitors taking part in the “Green All Around” programme showed the benefits of surrounding oneself with plants. At the stands of a dozen or so nurseries one could see displays of plants with medicinal properties, insects and birds friendly plants, plants protecting against noise and dust, absorbing dust and pollutants.

The programme of open gardening demonstrations and lectures and free consultations was addressed to amateurs – owners of gardens and allotments. Green workshops, garden games and competitions were prepared with the children accompanying their parents to the Exhibition in mind.

Garden – a good move!
The concept of the Show Garden situated in front of the entrance to the EXPO pavilions referred to the leitmotiv of the Exhibition – “Garden – a good move!.” The design was prepared and implemented by landscape architects Bartłomiej Gasparski and Sebastian Kochelfrom Palmett Markowe Ogrody S.C. The plants for the garden were provided by Grąbczewscy Plant Nursery and Clematis Nursery.
