Thuja plicata ‘Golden Whipcord’

A variety distinguished by intensely yellow, threadlike shoots and a characteristic, weeping habit. After 10 years, it reaches about 0.5 m in width and height. Grafted on a trunk, it forms a decorative tree with an original, umbrella-shaped, yellow crown all year round. Stringy shoots and twigs grow from the center of the bush, overhanging and cascading down. The variety is resistant to sunburn, can easily grow in sunny places, frost resistant. An easy-to-grow shrub, it grows well on humus, well-drained soils. Recommended for planting in home gardens, and rock gardens. Thanks to its golden color, it looks great in decorative pots placed on terraces and balconies.

A Polish variety with a columnar habit and dark green needles. At a young age, the bushes are characterized by a narrow habit, but they grow wide over time. The arched needles are quite long and dark green. As a male taxon, it does not set seeds. The bush is naturally dense and compact. This variety breaks stereotypes about the slow growth of yews. Rather fast growth, growing up to 40 cm per year at the age of 5-6 years. A 25-year-old specimen reached 6 m in height. The growth rate is clearly faster than other columnar varieties, which is the main distinguishing feature of this variety. A Polish variety with fine needles and a compact habit, suitable for low borders and medium-height hedges. During growth, it thickens spontaneously, forming compact bushes. It is distinguished from other varieties by shorter internodes and much smaller needles. The dark green needles are 1- 2 cm long and only 1.5-2 mm wide. The shrub grows relatively quickly and creates compact forms even with minimal pruning. A female variety, sets seeds in fleshy, red arils, eagerly eaten by birds. Plant tolerant of light. Average soil requirements, although it prefers fertile and permeable, moderately moist soils with a neutral to slightly acidic pH. Like all yews, it withstands urban conditions and at the same time cleans air of suspended dust. A fantastic variety for small gardens.

This is another variety selected by Przemysław Godlewski at the Ogrody o Zielonych Progach Nursery. It owes its name to the location of the nursery. The variety is fully frost resistant. Success in the cultivation of phloxes depends primarily on a properly selected location. These plants prefer fertile, humus and permeable soil with constant moisture. The location for their cultivation should be sunny or semi-shaded, not too hot.
