A graduate of the Faculty of Horticulture at the Agricultural University in Krakow and postgraduate journalism studies at Jagiellonian University. Editor-in-chief of the bimonthly “Szkółkarstwo” for 14 years.  Worked as an editor for the magazine “Hasło Ogrodnicze”. Deputy-editor of the quarterly “Kwiaty”.  She is published in numerous gardening magazines at home and abroad, including FloraCulture International, Kertészet és Szőlészet. Co-author of the book “Potrety Kwiatów” and translator of English language books (including “Kompozycje kwiatowe”). A speaker at many trade conferences connected with national and international horticultural trade fairs. Currently editor of “Pod Osłonami” and portal www.podoslonami.pl.

Wiesław Gawryś
Polish Academy of Sciences Botanical Garden

Graduate from Horticultural Technical School in Sochaczew and the Faculty of Horticulture at the Warsaw University of Life Sciences.  Has worked at the Botanical Garden of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw for 37 years. Initially, as dendrologist, then a specialist in tropical plants, and more recently involved in native flora. He serves as the Deputy Director.  Has participated in many botanical expeditions in Poland and abroad, among others to North Korea., Vietnam, Georgia, Kazakhstan, and Russia. Author of more than 250 popular scientific articles on dendrology, tropical plants and Polish flora.  Author the Latin-Polish dictionary of Herbaceous Plants. Primarily interested in Polish flora, the rules of botanical nomenclature, photography and his own garden.

 

Hanna Grzeszczak-Nowak
Botanical Garden at the University of Wrocław

Graduate of the Faculty of Horticulture at the Agricultural University of Poznan.  Since 1985, dendrologist at the Botanical Garden of the University of Wroclaw. Since 1988, acting director of the Wojsławice Arboretum, then inspector of this Arboretum.  Has consistently revitalized and developed the Arboretum. Maintains many unique collections of plants, including four national collections of types of Buxus, Hedera, Hemerocallis, and Rhododendrons. For years, promotes the cultivation of ornamental plants, organizing a number of events, including “HEMEROmania”, The Autumn Flower and Grass Festival, Lower Silesia Pumpkin Festival, Ivy weekend. Member of the Polish Dendrology Society, “Ericaceous Plants” Group, Efeu Deutsche Gesellschaft, Deutsche Gesellschaft Rhododendron. The author of numerous scientific publications, both domestic and foreign, books and many articles devoted to ornamental plants.
Laureate of the Honorary Green Laurel, awarded by the Polish Nurserymen Association for consistent and creative promotion of ornamental plants and horticultural culture.

 

Marco Hoffman
Netherlands Inspection Service for Horticulture

Botanist and taxonomist, currently head of the test team for new plant varieties at Naktuinbouw - Netherlands Inspection Service for Horticulture. For many years, researcher at Wageningen University in Lisse and the Nursery Experimental Station Boomteeltpraktijkonderzoek in Boskoop.  Conducts comparative experiments on new taxa of trees, shrubs and perennials for their suitability in gardens and urban green areas. Internationally renowned authority in the field of plant nomenclature, editor of “List of Names of Woody Plants” and “List of Names of Perennials”. Editor-in-chief of the Dutch annual “Dendroflora”, lecturer and author of numerous publications and articles in industry press, mostly Dutch, but also French and German.

Polish Association of Garden Centers

Graduate of the Horticultural Faculty at the Warsaw University of Life Sciences. Owner of the Flora Point Świat Roślin garden center, offering a full assortment of potted plants, garden plants, cut flowers.  Member of the Polish Association of Garden Centers.

 

dr Wojciech Podstolski
Polish Dendrology Society

A graduate of the Faculty of Biology at the University of Warsaw and doctor of biological sciences at the Insitute of Biochemistry and Biophysics at the Polish Academy of Sciences. Longtime collaborator and author of numerous articles concerning plant compositions and monographs of select types, published in magazines such as Kwietnik,  Ogrody and Zieleń to Życie.  Since 2009, he has worked in the Botanical Garden of the University of Warsaw, where he modernizes and develops the collection of the Plant Systems Department. He also consults about selection of plant species for garden designers. At the Cardinal Stefan Wyszynski University in Warsaw, he lectures and conducts seminars on the history and upkeep of gardens, as well as the species selection and plant compositions. Member of the Polish Dendrology Society and ICOMOS.

 

Maja Popielarska
JournalistGraduate of Landscape Architecture at the Warsaw University of Life Sciences. Popular and well-liked weather presenter on television since 1999. Since 2004 she has her own advice show about plant care and garden design – “Maja in the garden”. Author of gardening books. Winner of the prestigious Honorary Green Laurel award granted by the Polish Nurserymen Association for instilling and developing the passion of gardening in society.

 

Grzegorz Pawlik
Editor-in-Chief of "Mój Piękny Ogród"For 20 years he has been editor in magazine - „Mój Piekny Ogród”, the most popular gardening magazine in Poland. Presently, the editor in chief of this magazine is responsible for the content and artistic concept. He is a gardener of his choice, spending every spare moment on his own backyard garden in the suburbs of Wroclaw. For years he has been a passionate photographer of nature. What is more, he also is the author of many photographic articles of Polish and foreign gardens. He is the promoter of urban gardening and a proponent of saving old fruit varieties which are being displaced by industrial fruit trees.

 

dr Wiesław Szydło
Polish Nurserymen Association, Szkółka Drzew i Krzewów „Iglak Niewierz”A graduate of the Faculty of Horticulture at the Warsaw University of Life Sciences. As a researcher at the Department of Ornamental Plants for 25 years, he taught classes, gave lectures and seminars about ornamental nurseries. Author of numerous scientific publications and books, including “Ornamental Nursery”, “Propagating conifers”, co-author and editor of “Catalog of Plants”, “Plants for every garden” and popular scientific articles published in the columns of most magazines appearing on the market devoted to ornamental plants. Vice-president of the Polish Nurserymen Association, member of the Polish Dendrology Society, member of the Scientific Council of the Institute of Horticulture in Skierniewice. For 25 years, also operates his own nursery farm.

 

Astilbe Color Flash 'Beauty of Ernst'

The perennial with attractive, pink flowers and unusual, multicoloured leaves: dark green, red and purplish red. It forms effective crumps which grow up to 50-80 cm in height. The leaves wither in the winter. The flowers are tiny, pink, gathered in gentle, paniculate inflorescences, and they are beautifully displayed in comparison to dark leaves.  It blooms from July to August. The variety is frost resistant (5b zone).

Buddleja 'Pink Micro Chip'

One of the shortest, most compact cultivar of Buddleja with pink flowers. It grows up to 50-60 cm in height and width.  It forms lanceolate, dark green leaves covered with white tomentose from below, as well as pink, fragrant flowers which are gathered in elongated, paniculate inflorescences. It blooms from June to late autumn, attracting colourful butterflies. The variety is frost resistant (6b zone); it is fit for planting in containers.

Chaenomeles speciosa 'Orange Storm' PBR

The deciduous shrub with orange-red, double flowers. It grows up to 1.5-2 m in height and reaches similar size in width. The leaves are dark green, elliptic; the flowers are big, double, with intense orange-red colour. The shrub profusely blooms at the end of April and in May after opening first leaves; they re-bloom in the early summer. It does not produce fruits, it is frost resistant (5a zone).

Chamaecyparis lawsoniana 'Karaca'

The coniferous shrub with picturesque habit, down-curving branches and yellow scales; after 10 years it grows up to 2.5 m in height. After 10 years it grows up to 2.5 m in height and is 1.5 m wide. In the beginning, the shoots are slightly raised, later they are widely outspread; the branches are filamentous, poorly bifurcated, from bright yellow to golden, celadon inside the crone, hanging downwards. The variety is frost resistant (5b zone).

Chamaecyparis pisifera 'Blue Planet' PBR

The short, low growing coniferous shrub with ball-shaped habit, similar to 'Boulevard' type but thicker and less sensitive to fungal diseases. After 10 years it grows up to 30 cm in height. The phyllotaxis is in the form of soft, silver-bluish needles with two visible stripes of white coating beneath. Good resistance to frost (5b zone).  It is fit for planting in containers set on balconies and terraces.

Clematis 'Kaśka'

The climbing vines are compact, with bright yellow flowers and they have very long flowering time. It grows up to 2.5-3 m in height, climbs on supporting structures with the help of leaves and petioles. The flowers are bell-shaped, bright yellow and big, they have 7-9 cm in diameter, hanging downwards. They bloom from the end of May until October, after blooming they form decorative, silky multiple fruits. The Polish variety is frost resistant (5a zone).

Clematis 'Taiga' PBR

The climbing vines are with intriguing, always double, purple-blue flowers with yellow-green endings of sepals. It reaches 2-2.5 m in height, climbs with the help of leaves and petioles. The flowers are medium-size, very decorative, variable in shape, appear in June. Later, the plant blooms until September. The variety is frost resistant (zone 6a), it awarded a silver medal on Plantarium fairs in 2016.

Cornus Venus ® 'KN30 8' PBR

The deciduous shrub which forms big, extremely stunning bracts. It grows up to 3-5 m in height. The leaves are elliptic, dark green, in autumn they change colours beautifully. The flowers appear at the turn of May and June, they are gathered in small, capitulum inflorescences surrounded by creamy-white bracts with 10-15 cm in diameter. Ball-shaped, red fruits ripening in September. Good resistance to frost (6b zone).

Deutzia Yuki Cherry Blossom 'NCDX2' PBR

The low growing, short deciduous shrub with hemispherical habit and two-coloured flowers, grows up to 30-40 cm in height. The leaves are lanceolate, green, in autumn they change colours into red and purplish red.  The flowers are single, formed of plates which are pink inside and white outside, gathered in numerous inflorescences. The shrub blooms in May and June. The variety is frost resistant (6a zone), fit for cultivating in containers.

Diervilla ×splendens Diva'El Madrigal' PBR

The deciduous shrub with expansive habit, yellow flowers and decorative dark leaves. It grows up to 1.5 m in height. The shoots are partially raised, and partially bent over. The seasonal leaves, cardinal-red beneath, green-cardinal to cardinal on the top. The flowers are tiny, yellow, nicely displayed in comparison to leaves, bloom in June and July, attract insects. The variety is fully frost resistant (4 zone).

Echinacea 'Delicious Candy' PBR

The perennial with straight habit and double, dark pink flowers in the trendy colour of fuchsia. It reaches 60 cm in height. The leaves are dark green. The strap-shaped flowers form a single whorl on the edge of the inflorescence, the tubular flowers are short, full, arranged on the convex bottom of the anthodium forming the regular head resembling a pompon. The plant blooms at the beginning of July, attracts butterflies, and is resistant to frost (4 zone).

Epimedium grandiflorum 'Purple Pixie' PBR

The ground cover perennial with decorative, half-evergreen and very interesting, purple-cardinal flowers, grows up to 30 cm in height. The complex leaves, tripartite, young are brown, later they turn to green. In May the original, bright purple flowers with long, white spurs bloom. The flowers are delicate, gathered in inflorescences which grow above leaves. The variety is frost resistant (5 zone).

Fragaria ×ananassa Delizz 'Liza' PBR

The fruit plant growing and bearing fruits for almost 3 months, recommended for cultivation in containers set on balconies and terraces. It grows up to 30-40 cm. The plant blooms from spring to summer. It bears tiny but tasty, sweet and aromatic, orange-red fruits, nicely exposed in the comparison to dark green leaves. One plant bears up to 45 fruits. It is frost resistant (3 zone), awarded a National Winner title for 2016 in USA.

Miscanthus ×giganteus 'Meidl'

The strongly growing grass with dark green, wide leaves and characteristic purple shoots, unique due to the annual blooming in Polish ambient conditions. It forms impressive, thick tussocks which resemble fountains, and it grows up to 3-3.5 m in height, it is not expansive. It blooms in September and October, the flowers are gathered in pink-silver panicles. The variety is frost resistant (5 zone).

Pinus parviflora 'Beran'

The dwarf coniferous shrub with hemispherical, compact habit and very slow pace of growth, after 10 years of cultivation it reaches 50 cm in diameter. It has numerous, branched shoots which are thickly covered with needles. The needles are short, about 3 cm in length, 5 needles gathered in a bunch. The young needles are vividly bright green with visible, white stripes beneath, the old needles get darker and turn to silver shade. The variety is frost resistant (5b zone).

Rhododendron Xxl 'Hort02’ PBR

The evergreen, compact shrub with big, two-coloured flowers. It grows up to 40 cm in height. The leaves are coriaceous, dark green, the flower buds have intense carmine colour. The flowers are very big, bell-shaped, two-coloured, with frilled edges, of carmine-red colour, white inside. The shrubs bloom in May. The variety is sensitive to frost (7b zone), in Poland it is recommended for cultivation in containers which are hidden from winter.

Rosa 'Snow Pop' PBR

The ground cover rose with shoots and white flowers that bend over. It grows up to 0.5 m in height and is up to 1.2 m broad. At the beginning, the shoots are raised, and later they are bowed down under the weight of flowers, they form white and green carpet of flowers. The leaves are tiny, dark green, the flowers are small but very numerous, full, gathered in inflorescences at the end of shoots. The shrub blooms in June and re-blooms until autumn. The variety is frost resistant (6a zone).

Spiraea japonica Little Flame ® ‘Minspil04’

The short, thick shrub with compact, ball-shaped habit, yellow leaves and pink flowers, it grows up to 30-40 cm in height. The shoots are purplish red, the leaves are elliptic, of lemon-yellow colour, in spring they are pink-orange. The flowers are dark pink, gathered in flat inflorescences, they appear at the end of annual shoots in June and July. The variety is frost resistant (5 zone).

Thuja occidentalis Dark Embers 'Lesdasma' PBR

The coniferous shrub with regular, conical habit, the habit and the arrangement of shoots are almost the same as in 'Smaragd' variety but with significantly darker phyllotaxis. It grows up to 6-7 m in height. The shoots are numerous, branches flat, covered with hulls of especially deep, dark green colour, nicely contrasting with the orange skin of new shoots. The variety is frost resistant (5b zone).
